A former Westchester County Police Officer traded his badge for a prison jumpsuit when the Thornwood man was sentenced in May to more than four years in prison for his role in a drug ring at the Westchester County Airport.
Michael Brady was arrested in September of 2011 after accepting more than $20,000 to allow drug traffickers to pass mass quantities of the prescription painkiller Oxycodone through the airport while he was stationed there from December 2010 to April 2011, officials said. After his arrest, Brady was suspended without pay from the police department and resigned in November of 2011.
Brady was charged with extortion under color of right and receipt of a bribe by a public official, both federal offenses. Brady pleaded guilty to the charges in February.
On May 10, 2012, Brady was sentenced to 37 months in a federal prison. Also as part of his sentencing, Brady is required to forfeit the more than $20,000 that he accepted in bribes and is to be under three years of supervision upon his release.
Twenty other individuals were also arrested on charges related to the drug smuggling ring. Members of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency said that once the drugs were passed through the Westchester County Airport, they were then distributed through various areas of Connecticut.
