Town Of Mount Pleasant Activates Emergency Operations

MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. - With as much as a foot of snow expected to hit the region, officials in Mount Pleasant have declared a blizzard warning that will be effective as of midnight on Monday.

According to the New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the state is anticipating that between 16 and 20 inches of snow may fall in the lower Hudson Valley, with more than a foot coming to upstate New York. State police have cautioned that the storm may impact the region until Wednesday night, causing a combination of low visibility and slippery roadways, creating “treacherous travel conditions.”

According to the Mount Pleasant Emergency Operations Center, a blizzard warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibility is likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Officials have asked residents not to travel, and if one must travel, they should have a winter survival kit with them. If a motorist is stranded, they should stay with their vehicle.
