Town Urges Trick-or-Treaters to Avoid Downed Wires

MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. – Mount Pleasant Town Supervisor Joan Maybury stressed that children take caution Monday night while trick-or-treating as there are still many downed trees and wires throughout the town.

“We want parents to be extremely vigilant about down wires, especially those that may be covered by snow,” Maybury said.  “I think that’s an issue that is throughout the town and county,”

Although Maybury said Con Edison was working throughout the day Monday to clear wires and branches from roadways, some may still be present Monday evening. Maybury said wires left on the ground should be marked by tape or cones and, although they likely are not still live, parents and children should avoid them at all costs.

“During Halloween you have a concern that people don’t pay attention to those barriers but they should never go near those wires or just assume that they are not powered,” Maybury said.
