THORNWOOD, N.Y. – Albert Ackerly, of Thornwood, died Saturday, Feb. 28, at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 87.
Ackerly was born July 21, 1927, to Harold and Clara (nee Preiser) Ackerly in White Plains. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked for Higham Press in Pleasantville after the war. He was an active member of the Thornwood Fire Company for over 60 years, serving as sergeant at arms for more than 50.
Ackerly was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy; son Roger; five brothers; and one sister. He is survived by his son, Keith and wife Diane; daughter-in-law, Cathy of Boiling Springs, N.C.; sister, Dorothy Willis and her husband Arthur of Brewster; granddaughter, Lauren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Hawthorne Funeral Home, and funeral services will be held at the home Thursday at 10 a.m.
Interment will follow at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla.
