Dorothy Coccaro, 87, Nurse, Formerly Of Hawthorne

HAWTHORNE, N.Y. – Dorothy D. Coccaro of Ithaca, N.Y., formerly of Hawthorne, died Thursday, Sept. 27. She was 87.

Coccaro was born Nov. 14, 1924, in Florida, N.Y., to Vincent and Mary Brown. She worked as a registered nurse at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla for more than 30 years. She loved to bake, garden, crochet and do crossword puzzles.

She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Coccaro, in 1997. She is survived by six children, Albert (Katie) Coccaro of Bedford, Gregory (Marlene) Coccaro of Brewster, N.Y., Douglas Coccaro of Poughquag, N.Y., Kenneth (Martha) Coccaro of Armonk, Audrey (Randall) Lewis of Homer, N.Y., and Ronald (Colleen) Coccaro of Southbury, Conn.; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Coccaro is also survived by two brothers, Vincent (Elenore) Brown and Edward Brown, both of Florida, N.Y. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Sicina.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at Holy Rosary Church. Hawthorne Funeral Home handled arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rainy Day Fund at Kendal at Ithaca Inc.
