Joseph P. Ponturo, 92, Of Hawthorne

HAWTHORNE, N.Y. – Joseph P. Ponturo, of Hawthorne, died on Wednesday, June 3. He was 92.

Ponturo was born in Pleasantville on Oct. 16, 1922, to Leo and Fortunata (Patane) Ponturo, serving in the Army during World War II, earning the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster.

He was predeceased by his sisters Lucy Wallace and Katherine Guarnaschelli, and brothers Leo and John Ponturo.

Ponturo is survived by his wife Phyllis (Foca) Ponturo, two children, Paul and his wife, Carolyn, and Lisa Young and her husband Tom, and two grandchildren, Ivy Ponturo and Tara Vogl.

Visiting hours are on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home in Pleasantville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Holy Innocents Church in Pleasantville.

Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery in Pleasantville.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Memorial Children's Research Hospital in his memory are appreciated.
