VALHALLA, N.Y. - Joyce Englund, a lifelong resident of Valhalla, died May 29. She was 84.
Englund was born Aug. 25, 1928, in Yonkers, daughter of Ellen Farrell and William T. Murray. She attended local schools in Valhalla and was a graduate of White Plains High School. After graduation she began working at Readers Digest in Pleasantville, retiring from The Digest in 1983.
Englund is survived by her friend and companion, Eric Backman; a nephew; and numerous cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; and husband, Karl “Gene” Englund.
Calling hours are Monday, June 3 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home Inc. , 491 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains. Funeral service at 10 a.m.Tuesday, June 4 at Saint John the Evangelist Church, 148 Hamilton Ave., White Plains. Interment will be private.
