Lawrence graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1977 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Ithaca College in 1981. She returned to New York to pursue her acting career appearing in a segment of the "Late Show With David Letterman" doing a "Stupid Human Trick." That appearance enabled her to earn her SAG-AFTA card allowing her to perform in many movies, TV, and theater. She also wrote, produced and performed in several one-woman shows.

In addition to acting, Lawrence was also deeply dedicated to community service including Best Friends Animal Society, New York Cares, Safe Horizon Domestic Violence Shelter and Active Minds among many others. In 2012 she was named the New Yorker of the Week by NY1 News because of her dedication as a coach for the Special Olympics for over 20 years. In 2015, she was selected as the Corporate Big of the Year by Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC for her commitment as a role model for young people.

In addition to her parents Elaine D Lawrence-Krass and Edgar Krass of New Rochelle, Lawrence is survived by countless friends, relatives, animals, fans and strangers who have been touched by her lifetime of generosity.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Brothers Big Sister.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
