THORNWOOD, N.Y. – Michael J. Felleman of Thornwood died Oct. 2 at home surrounded by his family. He was 66.
A Thornwood resident for 37 years, Felleman worked as a court officer.
He was born Aug. 22, 1946, in Bronx, N.Y., to the late Charles and Kathleen McAllyn Felleman. He graduated from Tolentine High School in 1964 and Manhattan College in 1968.
Felleman spent almost 40 years working for the federal government in Social Security and U.S. Customs. After retiring from customs, he started a second career as a court officer with New York State. He also served in the Marine Corps Reserve.
He loved the beach, traveling and was an avid stargazer. He served as a Cub Scout leader and youth soccer coach. Most of all, he loved spending the summer with his friends and family at Westwood Swim and Tennis, where he served as a board member for more than 20 years.
Felleman is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sheila; three children, Tara, Courtney (Chris) Snye and Colin (Julia); a brother, Timothy, of San Jose, Calif.; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Beecher Funeral Home in Pleasantville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Innocents Church in Pleasantville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. The family asks that those wishing to honor Felleman consider becoming a bone marrow donor with the National Marrow Donor Program.
