NIcholas P. Galetta, 98, Of Thornwood, WWII Veteran, Trumpet Player

THORNWOOD, N.Y. - Nicholas P. Galetta of Thornwood died Oct.3. He was 98.

Galetta was born Aug. 9, 1915, to Michele and Perna Galetta in Eastchester. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a trumpet player in the N.Y. Metropolitan area performing with many bands most notably at the Copa Cabana in New York City. During the big band era in the 30's and 40's he traveled with a number of bands including Jack Jenny and Bobby Byrne.

Galetta is survived by his daughters, Nici LaPorte of Pleasantville and Tina (Tom) Weckesser of Rhinebeck; four grandchildren; a great grandson; brothers, Salvatore and Peter Galetta; and sister, Teresa Galetta. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Christine Galetta; and sisters, Jean Galetta and Rose Duro Galetta.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7 at Holy Innocents Church, Pleasantville. Entombment will be at Ferncliff Mausoleum, Hartsdale.
