Shenkman, the popular bar manager at the Chophouse Grille in Mahopac, was killed when his 2008 Audi A6 was traveling northbound on the Taconic State Parkway when he reportedly lost control and entered the median where the vehicle struck several trees before coming to rest, state police said.
Friends on Facebook expressed shock and sadness at his passing, saying they would miss his smiling face.
Shenkman had worked at the restaurant since it opened in 2015 and was considered the life of the establishment, others said.
He was so popular, he had been nominated for Hudson Valley Magazine's 2017 best bartender contest.
Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with a service at 5 p.m., at the funeral home located at 945 E. Main St.
