Sister Mary Jude McKenna, 86, Of Hawthorne

HAWTHORNE, N.Y. – Sister Mary Jude McKenna, (Margaret M. McKenna) died on March 7 at Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne after a long illness. She was 86.

McKenna was born Sept. 30, 1928, in New York City to Thomas J. McKenna and Helen Smith McKenna.

McKenna worked as a clerk before entering the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne on Feb. 18, 1951 and made her profession of vows on Sept. 14, 1952.

She served at Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne, was the Superior of Sacred Heart Home in Philadelphia, was the Superior of St. Rose's Home in New York City, and served at Our Lady of Good Counsel in St. Paul, Minn. and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Home in Atlanta, Ga.

McKenna returned to Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne in February 2009.

She was predeceased by brother James, and is survived by sister-in-law Lee McKenna, seven nieces and nephews and 35 great-nieces and nephews.

A wake will be held on Wednesday at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel Rosary Hill Home from 3:30 to 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary at Rosary Hill Home.

Internment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
