Thomas Horan, 82, Valhalla Religious Ed. Teacher

VALHALLA, N.Y. - Thomas "Bud" J. Horan, a former religious education teacher at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Valhalla, died July 17 in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was 82.

Horan was a former resident of Peekskill and North White Plains. He joined the New York Air National Guard at the age of 20 as a private and retired as a lieutenant colonel after 32 years.

He was a parishioner of Holy Name of Jesus for more than 40 years. Horan served on the parish council, taught religious education and served as a Eucharistic minister and lector. He was also involved with cursillo training at the church for more than 25 years.

A Little League volunteer and coach, he was also nicknamed "umpire-in-chief." After Little League, he became a football, volleyball, baseball and swimming official.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline; a daughter, Debbie Ross, of Oneonta, N.Y.; seven sons, Thomas R. (Jayne) Horan, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Charles J. (Cynthia) Horan of East Bridgewater, Mass., William J. (Carol) Horan, of Patterson, N.Y., Charles G. (Terry Fenton) Harte, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Michael E. (Connie) Horan, of Round Rock, Texas, Peter R. (Patricia) Horan, of Mattituck, N.Y., and Christopher J. (Michelle) Horan, of Newtown, Pa.; and 13 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hawthorne Funeral Home . A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, at Holy Name of Jesus Church. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
