Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner said that during the multi-jurisdictional bust, 25 dealers were apprehended, and undercover officers seized more than 400 bags of heroin, crack cocaine, angel dust and other drugs during the Halloween-themed operation.
Police said that six suspects remain on the loose, though investigators are actively on the hunt for them. It is not believed that the suspects were working in tandem, and were instead individually selling in the city.
“Operation Trick-or-Treat” involved several months of police work involving undercover officers before it came to a head today. Police in Yonkers received an assist from Westchester County Public Safety Commissioner George Longworth, Westchester County Police, members of the DEA and Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.
“I commend the great work of our Yonkers Police Department and our partnering agencies in law enforcement for their steadfast commitment in taking our streets back from the perils of drugs and drug addiction," Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano said. "We continue to work diligently to ensure our communities are rid of these offenders so we can provide for a safer city.”
"Yesterday's enforcement operation culminated a fourteen-month investigation that targeted narcotics-related crimes and drug trafficking," DEA Special Agent in Charge James Hunt added. "Nobody wants drug dealers in their neighborhood and by arresting 25 dealers and suppliers, safety will be restored to the residents of the City of Yonkers."
