Cops: Sex Offender Moves Into Mount Pleasant Shelter

VALHALLA, N.Y. – A registered sex offender moved into the Grasslands Homeless Shelter in Valhalla late last week, the Mount Pleasant Police Department announced. 

Derrick Ricketts, 48, was convicted in December 2011 of attempting to disseminate indecent material to a minor, a class E felony, the Westchester County Department of Public Safety told local police. County officials said the victim, a 15-year-old boy Ricketts had contacted multiple times via computer, was a stranger. Ricketts is currently under the supervision of the Westchester County Probation Office.

• No arrests have been made in a string of home burglaries in town and no burglaries have been reported since Aug. 14, Mount Pleasant Police Chief Louis Alagno said. An investigation continues.

• Mount Pleasant Police arrested an attendant at the Sunoco station in Thornwood on Aug. 13 after an officer saw him selling alcohol to an underage person.  Lakhwinder Singh, 19 of Thornwood, was charged with unlawfully dealing with a child, a misdemeanor. Police also issued a summons to a 17-year-old Briarcliff Manor boy for unlawful possession of alcohol, a violation.

• A man in the Hardscrabble Wilderness Area in Chappaqua was bitten by a large black dog that was not on a leash on Saturday, Aug. 18, police say. The man suffered minor injuries and the owner of the dog was given a ticket for violating the town's leash ordinance.
