Drowning Ruled As Cause Of Death Of Thornwood Man

THORNWOOD, N.Y. – An autopsy of Thornwood resident Peter Myung showed that drowning was the official cause of death of the 23-year-old in Lake George last week and that drugs or alcohol did not play a factor in the accident, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. 

“There is no reason to believe that any controlled substance played a factor in this incident,” said Lt. Steven Stockdale.

According to the autopsy, police said no underlying medical condition was found in Myung that could have caused the drowning.  Stockdale added that a toxicology report was conducted and that the department is still waiting on the results.  At this point, Stockdale said that Myung may have eaten shortly before entering the water.

“It’s unfair to speculate at this point, but we do know that he may have consumed some food before swimming,” Stockdale said.  “There’s no way though to determine at this point if that was a cause.”

On July 8, police said Myung was on Lake George with some friends after renting a pontoon boat for the day.  Around 4:45 p.m., Myung experienced difficulty while swimming from the boat to a nearby shoreline.  After screaming for help, Myung was pulled back onto the boat by his friends where CPR was administered unsuccessfully.  He was then transferred by EMS to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
