Man Charged With Murder In Shooting, Westchester DA Says

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- The Westchester County District Attorney has charged a Greenburgh man with the Aug. 25 car shooting that left one man dead and another seriously injured in Yonkers.

Westchester DA Janet DiFiore announced that Dontae Degree, 29, of 57 Town Green Drive, Greenburgh, was arraigned Tuesday, Oct. 27 on an indictment charging him with one count of murder in the second degree, a class “A” felony, one count of attempted murder in the second degree, a class “B” felony, one count of assault in the first degree, a class “B” felony, and one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class “C” felony. 

On Aug, 25, at approximately 1:35 p.m. several gunshots allegedly rang out in front of 127 Morningside Ave. in Yonkers, according to the district attorney.

A Yonkers police officer who was nearby reportedly raced to the location and discovered two men who had been shot sitting in the front seats of a Hyundai Sonata, the district attorney says.

Degree allegedly crept up behind the car occupied by the two victims and fired multiple shots at them, according to the district attorney.

Kenneth Hill who was sitting in the front passenger seat was killed, the district attorney says. Roylin Fairclough was seriously injured but survived, according to the district attorney. Hill was shot in the head, neck and spinal cord, the district attorney says. Fairclough was shot in the head, right shoulder and back, according to the district attorney. He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where he underwent surgery, the district attorney says.

Following a Yonkers police investigation, Degree was arrested on Oct. 19 and was remanded. He is due in court Nov. 24. He faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison, according to the district attorney.
