HAWTHORNE, N.Y. -- A masked man tried to rob the Citgo gas station on Bradhurst Avenue early Tuesday, but escaped without getting any money when the clerk ran out of the store and called 9-1-1.

The robber, who covered his face with a black and white bandanna, entered the station's convenience store around 12:40 a.m. Tuesday and demanded money. Mount Pleasant police said the robber did not display any weapon.

Police said the store's clerk ran out of the building and up the street to report the attempted robbery. The masked man fled the area during this time.

The robbery was the second in two weeks. Mount Pleasant police said a man robbed the store on June 13 and did take off with some money.

Police said it's unclear whether the two crimes were connected, but the store clerk reported the two robbers were similar in appearance.
