Pleasantville Police Department Adds Officer

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Morgan Dillon is the newest Pleasantville police officer, as the village officially swore her in as the 22nd officer in the department, adding to a recent string of hires.

“We’re very delighted to add another female officer,” said Pleasantville Deputy Mayor Mindy Berard. “We look forward to many years of service from Morgan.”

Dillon was officially sworn in as of last week and comes to Pleasantville after spending the past five years as an officer in the Westchester County Department of Public Safety. Dillon is the second female officer currently in the Pleasantville Police Department. In November, the village hired Officer Erin Holly, who was Pleasantville’s first female officer in 10 years. The village also hired office Thomas Woods last October.

Pleasantville Police Chief Richard Love said filling vacated spots in the department has been a goal of his since he was promoted to chief in May 2011.

“I knew that change needed to begin at the top, but in order to sustain any change, the entry-level positions needed to be filled,” Love said.

Village Trustee Jonathan Cunningham said the recent hires were made after carefully calculating the effects on the village budget.

“Not only have we been able to improve the quality of our department, but we’ve been able to do so in a manner that is very fiscally responsible,” Cunningham said.

He added that in recent years, many officers worked overtime, with as few as 17 active officers in the department, and hiring new officers to entry-level positions is more cost-effective. 

Dillon’s starting salary in the department is $64,883.
