A 21-year-old man is behind bars after state police say he lured a 13-year-old on social media to send photos before eventually breaking into the victim's home and committing forcible rape.
Allegations of sexual assault were reported to state police on Monday, June 25 in Carmel.
A subsequent investigation found Anthony E. Barrera Ramirez of Dover began having conversations with the child on a social media application, police said. The conversations became sexual in nature, and Barrera Ramirez was able to entice the victim to send inappropriate photos, according to police.
Barrera Ramirez then had sexual contact with the victim over a period of several months, including an incident in which he committed rape, police said.
Barrera Ramirez was charged on Tuesday, June 26 with first-degree rape, a Class B felony, as well as second-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse, both class D felonies, along with forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child, both Class A misdemeanors.
Barrera Ramirez was arraigned before the town of Carmel Court, and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $150,000 cash bail or $300,000 bond. His next scheduled appearance is July 10.
