Police Investigate Arson In Valhalla Car Fire

VALHALLA, N.Y. – A suspicious car fire at a Valhalla home is being investigated as possible arson, according to Mount Pleasant Police Chief Louis Alagno.

On Monday, a new 2012 Mercedes two-door sedan was fully engulfed in flames while it was parked and unoccupied in its owner’s driveway on Highclere Lane in Valhalla, police said.  The fire began around 12:30 p.m. and was extinguished by members of the Valhalla Fire Department. No one was injured during the incident.

Alagno said that evidence at the scene led police to believe it was an act of arson.  No arrest has been made.

In other Mount Pleasant police news:

  • On Oct. 21 around 6 a.m., a worker at Valhalla News in Valhalla reported that the convenience store was broken into and burglarized during the overnight hours, according to Mount Pleasant Police. Police say that the store’s window was smashed and the previous night’s lottery tickets money and an undisclosed amount of coins from the store’s register were stolen. No arrest has been made.
  • On Tuesday, around 8:30 p.m., Mount Pleasant Police arrested a student at the Hawthorne Cedar Knolls School in Hawthorne after and accused her of vandalizing a  teacher’s car that was parked on school property. The 17-year-old female was charged with criminal mischief in the third degree, a misdemeanor. Police say the student intentionally damaged both sideview mirrors of the 2009 Pontiac.
