WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - The two men implicated in the shooting of a female Yonkers police officer in the face last month reportedly took a stroll through Mamaroneck and perused local auto shops prior to the shootout in Yonkers.

Shortly after 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 25, officers, including Kayla Maher, were dispatched to the area of Marshall Road, near Ridge Drive in the Park Hill neighborhood, following reports of a suspicious vehicle that was occupied by two suspects.

Upon her arrival, one of the suspects produced a gun, and started shooting at Maher, who returned fire. The officer, who was from the 3rd Precinct, was struck in the face by gunfire. As many as five officers exchanged gunshots with the suspects, New Rochelle resident Jerry Reyes, 22 and 18-year-old Frank Valencia.

Maher quickly recovered and was released from the hospital days after being shot.

Video surveillance obtained by lohud , shows the two suspects loitering in a quiet stretch of Mamaroneck for several hours, peering into auto body shops without making any purchases or contact with employees. The two were in Mamaroneck as late as 3 p.m., just hours before the shooting.

Valencia, the suspected triggerman , is facing an attempted murder charge, while both men were charged with criminal possession of a weapon. Valencia had been released on probation for a previous gun charge days before the shooting. Both remain remanded to the Westchester County Jail.
