Tanker Fire Causes Route 22 Closure

Route 22 is shut down in both directions Saturday night in the Town of Amenia between the Amenia Town Hall and the intersection of Route 343 following a tanker fire, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports just before 9:30 p.m.

Traffic can still travel west on Route 44 towards Millbrook and east on Route 343 towards Connecticut.

The road closure is due to the brakes on a loaded gasoline tanker catching fire and disabling the vehicle.

The tank has not been compromised and there has been no release of hazardous materials.

The Amenia and Wassaic Fire Departments extinguished the fire and mitigated any potential danger.

The road closure is anticipated to last about an hour while a heavy-duty tow responds to the scene to remove the vehicle from the roadway.
