HAWTHORNE, N.Y. -- It's not so much the fact that no one has been charged with the murder of Larry Warren that frustrates Mount Pleasant Police Chief Louis Alagno, but more so that they know people could help.
"The night the incident occurred, we know that about a dozen people were there who saw the shooting," Alagno said. "And no one will cooperate."
Warren, a 21-year-old White Plains resident at the time of his death, was shot and killed at the now-closed Tino's Villa nightclub in Hawthorne. Saturday will mark the 10-year anniversary of his death and, to this day, Mount Pleasant Police have not been able identify or arrest a shooter.
The shooting occurred at around 3:40 a.m. on Feb. 16, 2003. Police said that Warren, a former basketball star at White Plains High School, was attempting to break up a fight between a few of his friends and others in the nightclub when shots rang out. Warren was shot in the head and later pronounced dead at Westchester Medical Center. A 21-year-old White Plains man was also transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his chest, but survived. Later that morning, Alagno said that New York City Police Officers determined that a 28-year-old Bronx man who was being treated for a gunshot wound to his leg at a New York City hospital was also shot at Tino's Villa early that morning.
Following the shooting, Alagno said the police interviewed more than 100 people who were connected to the shooting that night. Despite this, Warren's killer remains a mystery. Police said they believe many of those involved have failed to cooperate with police out of fear of reprisal.
"His death goes unanswered, even though we still search for his killer," Alagno said.
The murder case remains open and Alagno said the department encourages anyone involved to provide information from that night. Calls can be made to the department at 914-769-1941. He said all calls will be kept confidential.
