Thornwood A&P Worker Charged With Grand Larceny

THORNWOOD, N.Y. -- Mount Pleasant Police arrested and charged an employee of the A&P in Thornwood after police said the woman stole more than $1,000 from the supermarket.

On March 11 at around 2 p.m., police charged Rita Drago, 47, of Thornwood with grand larceny, a felony.

Police said Drago took the money in cash from registers at the A&P and the department was tipped off to the crime by security workers at the supermarket. Police did not give a timeframe for when the cash was stolen. 

In other blotter news:

  • On March 9 at around 10 a.m., police arrested a 67-year-old Pleasantville woman on charges of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, a misdemeanor. Police said the woman struck an open door of a parked car on Franklin Avenue in Thornwood without stopping. The woman was later stopped by Mount Pleasant Police and subsequently arrested. 
  • On March 10 at around 10 a.m. it was reported to Mount Pleasant Police that a car drove on the ball fields at Carroll Park in Thornwood and left tire marks that damaged the fields. The vehicle also broke a wooden fence along the outskirts of the park. Police believe the incident occurred during the overnight hours and an investigation continues. No arrest has been made. 
  • On March 11 at around noon, Mount Pleasant Police said a female Pace University student reported her purse was stolen from the campus library in Pleasantville. Police said the purse and its contents were stolen while it was left unattended. Police did not have a monetary value for the purse or its contents. An investigation continues and no arrest has been made.
