Officers were dispatched to a bridle path off the northbound Hutchinson River Parkway in White Plains on Thursday, where there were reports of a horse that had been injured and required assistance.
Upon arrival, officers reported that they found a horse that had fallen on a slippery bridge over the Hutchinson River Parkway, suffering injuries to its face and legs. The horse’s rider was uninjured and at the scene assisting a veterinarian, who was able to start treatment on the injured animal and medicate it to prevent further injury.
Once the horse was stabilized, crews from the White Plains Fire Department and staff from Twin Lakes Stable in Eastchester teamed up - under the direction of the veterinarian - to lift the 1,1000-pound horse off the bridge and to safety.
Following the traumatic incident, the horse was able to stand with some assistance and was placed in a horse trailer, where it was taken for treatment.
