At approximately 7 p.m. on Sunday night, police stopped Kristen Walsh, 36, on Heathcote Road after they were alerted that she was driving erratically and spotted talking on her cell phone while operating her vehicle.

According to police, Walsh was traveling at a very slow speed and when a traffic stop was initiated, she struck the curb on the side of the road. As police approached, the driver kept the car in drive and officers smelled alcohol on her breath.

“During our conversation, patrol smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver’s mouth,” the police report states. “The driver was also attempting to avoid eye contact with patrol and kept looking away.” The report also notes that Walsh had slurred speech and slow motor skills.

Upon further investigation, Walsh’s 9-year-old daughter was found to be her passenger. She would later admit to having a mixed vodka drink and a xanex an hour prior to the police stop. She failed multiple field sobriety tests before stating she could no longer continue because she was feeling “tired.”

Walsh was arrested and found to have a blood alcohol content of .14 percent, nearly double the legal limit. She has been charged with felony charges of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child younger than 16-years-old, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content greater than .08 percent for the second time and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction in the past decade.
