Abinanti Wants Rail Crossing Study In Wake Of Valhalla Crash

MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. – Assemblyman Tom Abinanti released a statement on Thursday pushing for the passage of his bill, A.5235-B, which would require the state Department of Transportation to conduct a study of level-grade rail crossings.

Abinanti introduced the bill in the wake of last year's Metro-North crash that killed six and injured 15. The bill remains in the Senate after passing the Assembly.

“We have to be proactive in determining where there are safety issues that need immediate attention,” Abinanti said in a statement. “Drivers shouldn’t be playing a game of chance whenever they approach a railroad crossing. A comprehensive evaluation of these often dangerous crossings will go a long way in protecting the health and safety of New Yorkers.”
