Abinanti introduced the bill in the wake of last year's Metro-North crash that killed six and injured 15. The bill remains in the Senate after passing the Assembly.
“We have to be proactive in determining where there are safety issues that need immediate attention,” Abinanti said in a statement. “Drivers shouldn’t be playing a game of chance whenever they approach a railroad crossing. A comprehensive evaluation of these often dangerous crossings will go a long way in protecting the health and safety of New Yorkers.”
