State Controller Thomas DiNapoli approved a state police request to bypass the state competitive bidding process to buy the slightly used Sikorsky S-76D Deluxe Executive Helicopter, according to the New York Daily News. The helicopter would be used, among other purposes, to fly Cuomo around the state.

Cuomo, along with aides and security personnel were traveling Wednesday from Albany, where the governor delivered the last of six State of State addresses when their helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing at Stewart Airport in Orange County after it became filled with fumes that smelled like smoke.
