Attending the announcement at the college's Gateway Center In Valhalla were: Belinda Miles, president of Westchester Community College; Sarah Ayres Stenberg, vice president of global philanthropy for JPMorgan Chase; Tere Wisell, vice president and dean for workforce development for the college; and Michael Haberman, Northeast region executive for JP Morgan Chase Global Philanthropy.

In 2015, JP Morgan Chase awarded a grant under its New Skills at Work global initiative to Westchester Community College.

The grant was given to form an advisory group for research and planning for the lower Hudson Valley region to "better connect residents to promising middle skills opportunities," said a release.

Middle skills jobs include those requiring more than a high school diploma but less than a bachelor’s degree.

The jobs are considered "a gateway that can lead people out of lower-paying jobs into fields with better pay and job prospects," the release said.
