Astorino attacked his opponent, Senator George Latimer (D-Rye) as "Lyin' Latimer" on Twitter Tuesday afternoon for driving an unregistered car. During the 2016 Republican primary, Trump famously attacked his opponent, Senator Ted Cruz as "Lyin' Ted."

"Lyin' Latimer caught in another whopper," Astorino, who endorsed Trump after he wrapped up the nomination, said. "Admits he's been driving an unregistered car, still hasn't paid taxes."

Latimer was unable to register his 2014 Jeep because he owed parking tickets to various municipalities and he admitted to occasionally taking the vehicle out for "test drives" on Friday. Driving an unregistered vehicle is against the law in New York.

On Monday, Latimer paid three parking tickets totaling $680 to the Village of Mamaroneck, according to lohud. Latimer said he recently paid $1,400 to cover tickets in Port Chester, White Plains and Yonkers.

Astorino's campaign has also made an issue out of a home owned by Latimer's wife in Rye owing more than $46,000 in taxes since 2012. Latimer has called the issue a family dispute and said he is not involved.

Latimer has called on Astorino to resign for allegedly accepting bribes, including a Rolex watch, as part of a federal corruption probe. Astorino has denied the allegations and said he paid for the watch himself.
