In a press conference at the Mount Kisco public library, Wagner, a Democrat, received the endorsement of the organization he has served as a volunteer board member. Wagner pointed out that common sense gun safety laws like New York’s newly-strengthened background check system and ban on military-style assault weapons are vital public safety measures with wide support, and called his opponent’s stance in favor of their repeal an extreme view that could endanger the safety of New York’s children and families.

“As a father raising a three-year-old daughter in the Hudson Valley, keeping all our communities safe from gun violence is personal to me,” said Wagner. “I’m not a professional politician, and the gun lobby doesn’t scare me – I will never vote to allow military-style assault weapons in our communities, and I will never vote to repeal background checks. We need to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.”

“We are proud to endorse Justin Wagner for New York State Senate in the 40th District. Justin understands that smart gun laws save lives. New York’s strong gun laws are a reason our state has the fourth lowest gun death rate in the nation. We look forward to working with Justin after he is elected to the State Senate to continue New York’s leadership role in protecting New York families and communities from the scourge of gun violence,” said Leah Barrett of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence.

The 40th District covers Pleasantville, Armonk, Bedford, Yorktown, Briarcliff, Chappaqua, Cortlandt, Lewisboro, Mount Pleasant, Mount Kisco, North Salem, Peekskill, Pound Ridge, Somers and parts of Putnam and Dutchess counties.
