What's Happening In Stamford This Week

Monday, July 9

The Budding Naturalist: 4 to 6 p.m. Animal Embassy will host a program Monday through Thursday to help teach kids about animals. The program is for kids entering kindergarten through grade 5, and prices range from $105 to $120. Board of Representatives: 8 p.m. The board will have its monthly full board meeting to discuss and vote on key issues facing the city. The meeting will take place in the board’s legislative chamber on the fourth floor of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

Tuesday, July 10

Puppet Making Workshop: 2 p.m. Emmy Award-winning puppeteer Jim West will teach kids ages 6 to 10 how to make their own dinosaur bag puppets. The event is free, and the kids will get to keep their puppets. Ferguson Library, 1 Public Library Plaza, at Broad and Bedford streets.

A Day in the Farmer’s Life: 2:30 p.m. The farm staff will take kids through one aspect of farm life, teaching them how to be a farmer. The event is weather permitting. Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road.

Spider Snacks: 4 p.m. Visitors are invited to view the tarantula exhibit to learn about the spiders and meet them. The event is free to attend with gate admission. The Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road.

Wednesday, July 11

Help Out A Local Hero: 4 to 9 p.m. Fairway Market in Stamford will be donating 25 percent of all purchases from customers who register their receipts to the family of Troy Strauser, a Stamford police officer who fell 20 feet chasing a suspect in May. The market is located at 699 Canal St.

Dark (or Milk) Chocolate Yum!: 4:30 p.m. Teenagers are invited to learn how to make chocolate. Registration is required by calling 203-351-8294. Ferguson Library, 1 Public Library Plaza, at Bedford and Broad streets.

John Pizzarelli performs: 6:30 p.m. The world-renowned Jazz Musician, John Pizzarelli, will perform in Jazz Up July. Admission is free for the performance. Columbus Park.

The Big Assist IV: 7 p.m. Professional hockey players, including Matt Moulson, Ryan Shannon and Martin St. Louis, will be playing in a charity hockey game to raise money for the Obie Harrington-Howes Foundation, which helps individuals with spinal cord injuries. Admission is $25 for adults, $10 for minors or $75 for two adult and three minor tickets. Terry Conners Rink, 1125 Cove Road.

Thursday July 12

Learn Digital Photography: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Ferguson Library will be teaching people how to edit and share your photos. Bring photos with you on a flash drive, and register on the Ferguson’s website. Ferguson Library, 1 Public Library Plaza, at Bedford and Broad streets.

Tarantula Tales: 4 p.m. Learn all about the eight-legged creatures. The event is free to attend with gate admission. Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road.

Alive@Five: 5 p.m. Matisyahu is headlining the weekly concert series and will be joined by Moon Taxi and Emergency Service. The concert will be held in Columbus Park.

Friday July 13

“Journey 2: The Mysterious Island”: 2 p.m. This week’s Friday Flick is “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” starring the Rock. The film is rated PG and runs 94 minutes. Ferguson Library, 1 Public Library Plaza, at Bedford and Broad streets.

Medicare Counseling: 2:15 p.m. Senior citizens can receive private counseling on the benefits of Medicare. The program is free and appointments need to be scheduled by calling 203-351-8292. Harry Bennett Branch of the Ferguson Library, 115 Vine Road.
