Police Seek Public's Help In Unusual Incident On Tappan Zee Bridge

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- State Police in Hawthorne are requesting the public's assistance in its investigation of an unusual incident that occurred on the Tappan Zee Bridge on Sunday.

Several 911 callers reporting seeing a gold or brown pick-up truck stopped in the right lane, near the center of the northbound thruway just before 6 p.m. Sunday. A white male in a green shirt was observed outside the truck near the passenger side, police said.

Witnesses stated they saw the man approach or possibly climb the rail on the side of the bridge before losing sight of him. Responding Troopers found the bridge clear, with no stopped pick-up truck or sign of this individual.

As a precaution, the Hudson River near the Tappan Zee Bridge was also searched with the assistance of the Nyack, Central Nyack, Piermont, Tarrytown and Thiells Fire Departments with boats and divers. The Rockland County Sheriff's Department also provided.

Police Marine and Aviation support. The individual was not located.
