Bring Your Old Bikes, Sewing Machines To Pascack Hills High

MONTVALE, N.J. -- If you have a bicycle or a sewing machine that is languishing in your home, the Pascack Hills High School Environmental Club can help get them to folks in developing countries, through an event on Sunday, May 22.

Pedals for Progress gathers bikes and sewing machines, and ships them to countries where they can be used to help develop self-sustaining businesses. In 25 years, P4P has collected and shipped over 147,000 bicycles, and it's gathered over 3,000 sewing machines over 15 years.

One community partner in Tanzania sells some of the sewing machines and teaches sewing and makes clothes to sell with others. With the profits, the group has been able to run new power lines for a corn-milling machine and for 10 families who have never had electricity.

Rain or shine, people can bring bikes and sewing machines to the school parking lot from 1-4 p.m. Pascack Hills High is located at 225 W Grand Ave., in Montvale. Also, $10 per item is requested, to help cover shipping costs. Pedals for Progress will provide a receipt for the tax-deductible donations.
