The Briarcliff resident recently graduated from Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass. where he discovered a love for journalism. Kane said he want to Brandeis because of the small size of the school, the distance from home and because of its large Jewish community.

"During my first semester I took a sports reporting course and I was hooked, Kane said. "I loved reporting and the passion for journalism that my professor had was contagious. The journalism department at Brandeis is pretty small but that meant I could develop deeper relationships with the professors."

Kane's real passion was ultimate frisbee. He played on the team for four years and was a captain his senior year.

"We had a lot of success - we placed second in the country among Division III teams the past two years, Kane said.Being on the team took up a majority of my time outside of the classroom but I had so much fun playing on the team. Most of my closest friends from Brandeis were my teammates."

With Brandeis behind him, Kane said he will be attending Northwestern University in the fall for graduate school, continuing to take courses in journalism.

"I am sad to be leaving Brandeis but I am also excited for what lies ahead at Northwestern," Kane said.
