YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- “There’s something particularly special about our adult students,” is how James Langlois opened the ceremony for the 2016 graduation of BOCES’ licensed practical nursing program.
He would go on to describe how the students have to not only focus on their school work but on their home lives as well considering many of them have jobs and even families that need their attention.
Graduate speaker Khadija El-Amin Flowers in her speech stated “We made it,” complimented by cheers from her fellow classmates. “We started this program as strangers and now we’re ending as family”
Susan Berger another graduate speaker stated how the program started off with twenty students but ended with sixteen saying, “We lost sleep, we lost our sanity” and that “we shared lunches, we shared tears and we shared scrubs."
Judy Gromer the facilitator of the nursing program told the graduates “you have excelled” and gave her students one last challenge, to continue to make a difference in the world."
