“I was shocked when I found out I won,” said Brigitte. “It’s an incredible award.”

Her passion for engineering and math began at age 12. Brigitte is a member of the Math Honor Society, Engineering Club, Chemistry Club and Intel science research program at Briarcliff. She was nominated by her school counselor Erin Mangan.

Brigitte was the sole high school student in Westchester County to be recognized at the luncheon alongside a Westchester Community College student and five professional women in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

“On behalf of the Board of Education, congratulations to you and your family on this honor and, more importantly, congratulations on all of your success,” said Board of Education President Michael Haberman. “We are all very proud of you and take great pride in knowing our schools, and our community, produce wonderful young leaders like you.”

Brigitte has noticed discrepancies in gender involvement in STEM fields and plans to pursue them in college.

“It’s still a male-dominated field, but it doesn’t bother me,” she said. “I think it’s fantastic that women are starting to pave their own way.”
