Briarcliff Writing Lab Recognized At Albany Conference

BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. – Briarcliff High School's Writing Lab was designated a Program of Excellence during the 2014 New York State English Council conference in Albany.

Before fellow educators from across the state, teachers Karen McCarthy and Thomas Durkin delivered a PowerPoint presentation and showed a video about the Writing Lab shot by BHS students Michael Price and Sydney Agona.

The Writing Lab at BHS has been active for 15 years. The program allows students to spend one-on-one sessions with English teachers to review the students’ writing. Subjects range from chemistry lab reports and research papers to college essays.

“The teachers are so knowledgeable about what makes an essay tick,” said student Jessica Daneshvar.

Student Joey Flihan also recognized the program’s effectiveness in helping students achieve their academic goals.

“You know you’re going to get class-A editing and class-A commentary and you’re going to come out with the best paper every time,” said Flihan.
