The day began with an assembly hosted by the fire chief who spoke about fire safety at home and stressed the importance of having a working smoke alarm. The chief also discussed sharing imperative steps like having a fire evacuation safety plan for the house, how to "stop, drop and roll," and when to call 911. Students were then led outside to the school's parking lot where they walked through the smoke stack and on the fire truck. The firemen also showed the students what tools are often used to fight fires and how they are used in an emergency. "It was great because we saw many of our former Kensico students who are volunteer firefighters now," said Kensico Principal Matt Curran, "as well as some of our dads who are also on the force."
