Lower Hudson Valley Schools Keep Tabs On Lead In Water

School systems in the lower Hudson Valley are scrambling to test and address lead contamination in water, but some officials say having a central reporting system for lead testing and remediation would be helpful in their efforts, according to lohud.com.

School districts in Rockland and Westchester counties have been regularly notifying parents of voluntary water testing for lead, in part because of the lead contamination crisis in Flint, Mich.

Spurred in part by the lead contamination crisis in Flint, Mich., schools in Westchester and Rockland counties have been notifying parents of voluntary testing since many hadn't been tested for lead in years. In several cases, higher lead amounts have been found, and fixtures were turned off then later replaced, lohud.com reports.

New York City's Department of Education has a system to track testing in school buildings, and note any issues. But there's nothing like that in Rockland or Westchester counties, or on the state level, lohud.com says.
