POCANTICO HILLS, N.Y. --  Pocantico Hills fourth-graders recognized Martin Luther King Jr.'s great legacy in a creative way this year. The students participated in the 2017 Martin Luther King Jr. Fine Arts and Essay Display by creating posters that are exhibited in the Concourse of the Empire State Plaza in Albany.

The artwork went up on Jan. 12 and will be available for viewing through Feb. 28.

The students used symbols of doves, peace signs and hearts to represent MLK’s message of nonviolence, according to a release from Pocantico Hills Central School District. They colored their artwork with markers using combinations of warm colors, cool colors, primary, secondary, as well as intermediate and complementary colors, the release said.

“I find it is a great way to teach art principles while enforcing the social studies curriculum,” said art teacher Jolene Morotti.

Visitors to the Empire State Plaza Concourse can view the students' 35 posters along with artwork in other genres from many other New York State schools.
