Mount Pleasant School Board Elects New President

THORNWOOD, N.Y. – New and familiar faces were welcomed to roles in the Mount Pleasant Central School District this month, including a new president of the Board of Education.

At the district’s annual reorganization meeting, the board members voted to elect Vice President Jim Grieco as the new president, replacing Theresa Fowler who was not re-elected to the board in the May school board elections.

“I think Jim is going to do a great job,” Schools Superintendent Susan Guiney said.  “It’s wonderful that we have dedicated members on our board who want what is best for our children.”

Fowler served one term on the board after being elected in 2009. Board member Eric Schulze was voted to succeed Grieco as vice president. A new member of the board was also sworn in this month as 20-year Mount Pleasant resident Thomas McCabe began his first three-year term.

In addition to the new roles on the Board of Education, the district is also welcoming a new administrator.

As of July 1, Jennifer Delconte is the director of Special Education & Student Services.  Delconte’s hiring was first announced in May and Guiney said she comes to the district with experience in the field after previously working in the Greenburgh School District.

“I think she brings a very broad range of experiences to the district,” Guiney said of Delconte.  “She really understands special education parents and their children.”

Guiney said she looks forward to working with Delconte and that she expects the new administrator to meet the expectations of career and college readiness for students.

The Mount Pleasant Central School District Board of Education is set to meet next at its public work session in the district office in Thornwood at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 8.
