MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. -- With spring finally here and summer not far off, parents and kids in Mount Pleasant can begin to think about next year's school calendar.
The district released the calendar for the 2013-14 school year. The first day of school will be Sept. 9. Students will be off Oct. 14 for Columbus Day. There will be no school Nov. 11 for Veterans Day and Nov. 28 and 29 for Thanksgiving recess. The holiday break will fall from Dec. 23 through Jan. 1.
Students will be off Jan. 20 for Martin Luther King Day and winter recess from Feb. 17 through 21. There will be a Superintendent's Conference Day on March 17 and spring recess will be April 14 through 21.
The last holiday of the school year will be observed May 23 through 26 for Memorial Day and the last day of school for students is June 26.
Students are scheduled to be in the classroom for 182 days of instruction while teachers will report 186 days.
The district has set aside two days for snow or other emergencies. If more than two days are used, vacation days on April 21 then May 23 will be taken. If more are needed, April break would be adjusted.
