Mount Pleasant Students Earn School Honors

MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. – Students from Mount Pleasant have earned several awards and honors while at school and college:

  • Valhalla resident Kelly Addorisio graduated from the University of Delaware with a bachelor's degree in English education. Addorisio was also inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.
  • Pleasantville resident Mary Huerster graduated from Washington and Lee University with a bachelor's degree.
  • Thornwood resident Alyssa Brophy was named to the dean's list at Coastal Carolina University.
  • Pleasantville resident Emily Paruolo graduated from Bard College at Simon's Rock with a bachelor's degree in ceramics, sculptre, 3-D design and photography.
  • Pleasantville resident Marie E. Barry graduated from the University of Scranton with a bachelor's degree in history and English.
  • Pleasantville resident Michael Kane graduated from the University of Scranton with a bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • Pleasantville resident Anthony Policastro graduated from the University of Scranton with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and philosophy.
  • Valhalla resident Jessica Andriotis was named to the dean's list at York College of Pennsylvania.

  • Pleasantville resident Brendan Collins graduated from Providence College with a bachelor's degree in finance.

  • Thornwood resident Tracy Guarino was named to the dean's list at Hudson Valley Community College.

  • Several Pleasantville Middle School students earned silver pins at the Math Olympiad program: Anisha Chandy, Cheryl Chen, Allegra Copland, Ella Furniss, and Brendan O’Neill.

  • Pleasantville High School student Amrithaa Gunabalan placed 20th in Student Congress at the National Catholic Forensic League's grand national tournament.

  • Thornwood resident Tina Karaqi was named the National Tournament MVP and Outstanding Offensive Player at the 2013 National Junior College Athletic Association Division III National Tournament.

  • Two Pleasantville High School music ensembles received high grades at the Music in the Park Festival in Hershey Park, Penn.: Camerata received a superior rating and first place in the women's choir division, while Razor's Edge earned an excellent rating and second place in the men's choir division. Sophomore Justin Maldonado, a member of Razor’s Edge, was named Best Overall Vocal Soloist.
