The award winners for Hawthorne are Collin Lyden, Grace Mooney, Frank Vessa, Natalie Partridge and Brooke Pfeiffer. The Columbus honorees are Francesca DeMartino, Christina Kelly, Luca Mulhare and Matthew Pipcinski. Westlake Middle School eighth-grade winners are Jason Ausiello, Zach Barnes, Lea Bonsignore, and Stacie Kinlen.

For the past 51 years, the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance has sponsored its annual Elementary and Middle School Physical Education Awards Program to recognize young students for citizenship and sportsmanship, in addition to being physically fit.

“These children are leaders in the class and are great role models,” said Columbus physical education teacher Sean Mayer.

The recipients were honored at a ceremony at Beacon High School on May 14 and were presented with a certificate, NYSAHPERD winners patch and a commemorative gift from the association.
