Dear parents and community members,

Throughout the 2013-14 school year, the District's Facilities Steering Committee comprised of community members, parents, students, faculty and administrators met to evaluate and discuss our building, program and student needs. The committee also reviewed the financial impact that any recommended work would have on the taxpayers of Mount Pleasant. In June, the committee presented its recommendations to the Board of Education.

This summer, the board hired Arris Contracting, an experienced construction management company, to cost out the committee's recommendations. On Wednesday, Sept. 17, the Board of Education approved a $55.8 million capital bond referendum for the upgrading and modernization of the Westlake campus and parking and infrastructure work at the elementary schools.

A vote will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., in the Westlake High School gym. The Saturday date will help to accommodate those with weekday work schedules as well as ensure parking availability for the anticipated number of community residents who will be on campus to vote.

Information regarding this bond referendum is available on our website: mtplcsd.org. There will also be a newsletter delivered to your mailbox this week listing dates for community information sessions as well as opportunities to tour our Westlake campus. Those dates are also listed in the calendar on the right.

An overview of the projects, including the projected cost to taxpayers and voting information, can be found below. Additionally, there will be more detailed information about the bond in a separate newsletter in the coming weeks.

We welcome your interest in the projects and urge you to attend one of the information sessions, take a tour of our Westlake campus buildings, visit our facilities bond web page for upcoming FAQs and watch the architect's presentation on Cablevision channel 77 or FIOS channel 24.

If you have any questions, please bring them to an information session or email newsLINK@mtplcsd.org to have them answered in our FAQ section.

I look forward to seeing you at one of these information events as well as our Homecoming festivities this Friday and Saturday.

Regards,

Sue
