Alvarado discussed his experiences growing up in El Paso, Texas, near the Mexican/American border. After serving nine years in the U.S. Navy, he now works as an aviation electrical engineer in Saratoga Springs. Alvarado shared several cultural tidbits with the students, as well as some common regional Spanish colloquialisms. He spoke about his travels overseas while serving in the military and also encouraged students to continue learning a second language, as it will benefit them later in life. Alvarado also answered questions from the students and said later it was a pleasure visiting Valhalla High School.
