Pace Model UN Brings Home The Hardware From Washington Conference

NEW YORK -- For Pace University students at the National Model United Nations conference in the District of Columbia, the top awards in global politics have taken a trip back to New York area.

The Pace Model UN team from both Manhattan and Westchester took home several awards from a conference in Washington, D.C.

In a testament to Pace students’ research, writing, public speaking and negotiation skills, the team took home 14 awards, tying them for second on the overall leaderboard with De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde, and one behind West Virginia University. The competition contained a field of 45 universities and institutions. 

Pace Pleasantville was recognized as an 'Outstanding Delegation' for their representation of the Republic of Congo in simulations of the UN General Assembly Third Committee -- which dealt with social, cultural and humanitarian issues --  and the International Atomic Energy Agency. Other Pace students representing Venezuela and Congo also won four awards for 'Outstanding Position Papers' and one 'Outstanding Delegate in Committee' award for Venezuela in a simulation of the UN refugee agency (UNHCR).

Pace University New York City received an 'Honorable Mention' for its representation of Sudan in simulations of the UN General Assembly First (Disarmament and International Security) and Third Committees (Social, Cultural and Humanitarian), Food and Agriculture Organization, International Atomic Energy Agency and UNHCR. Pace NYC students representing Sudan, Senegal and Zimbabwe also won seven awards for 'Outstanding Position Papers.'
