The school district has received a number of applications since posting a job listing and is working with the Southern Westchester BOCES in its principal search. A search committee, including community members, is also planned.

The Pleasantville Board of Education unanimously accepted the resignation of Principal Dawn Bartz during a heavily-attended meeting in early June.

Bartz will step down on July 31.

School officials say Assistant Principal Gregg Fonde will stay on at the high school during a transitional period before taking over his new role at Pleasantville Middle School.

Bartz joined the district in 2011, moving from New Canaan, Conn.

The school district has not disclosed details on what led to Bartz's resignation. More than 440 residents had signed an online petition on Wednesday calling for a halt to the principal search and Bartz's reinstatement.

“We, residents of the Pleasantville Union Free School District, petition the Board of Education of the Pleasantville Union Free School District to temporarily cease the current search for a new principal of Pleasantville High School, temporarily reinstate Dawn Bartz and hire an independent consultant to conduct an independent investigation into the events and circumstances leading up to the agreement signed on May 23, 2013 by Mary Fox-Alter, Dawn Bartz, Stephen Chamberlain, and Lois Winkler,” the petition reads. “As taxpayers in this community, we want to be sure all mandated procedures were properly followed.”
